Sunflower Blooms

Sunflower Blooms

About the painting

Summer in Alaska is all about nature. We hike, explore, and soak in the outdoors as much as possible before winter arrives. A big part of that experience is the abundance of flowers found everywhere—along hiking trails, in farm fields, in the woods, on mountain slopes, and in our gardens.

The flowers in our own garden have provided endless inspiration for my paintings over the years. The sunflowers featured in this piece were a new addition this summer. I was delighted by how many blooms emerged from their relatively small pot. The bright yellow petals were striking, and even better, they held their color well into September.

Although this painting was originally meant to be the final summer flower piece, the combination of yellow, green, and brown made it an ideal candidate for the first fall painting of the year. Which season do you think it fits better with?

Enjoy the vibrant colors of these blooms. For anyone looking to add a splash of color to their home, links on the right allow you to purchase the original or prints.
