Mattias Ahlvin, originally from Scandinavia, has called Alaska home since 2001. Although he has been drawn to art since elementary school and dabbled in various media since then, the last few years he has focused on learning and experimenting with watercolor and gouache.
Mattias draws his inspiration from the majestic landscapes of Alaska, focusing on scenes from around the state, but south-central Alaska in particular. Residing in Palmer has provided an endless supply of landscapes to paint.
His art is an exploration of Alaska’s landscapes, capturing its beauty through vibrant colors and intricate details. From frozen, wintery farms to the towering peaks of the Chugach range, his paintings invite viewers to experience the essence of Alaska’s diverse landscapes.
Mattias’ paintings has most recently received awards at the Alaska State Fair Art Exhibit of 2022 and 2023.
