As November draws to a close and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I’m excited to share another completed painting. This one has been in the works for several years—it’s taken that long to figure out exactly how I wanted to capture it. After diving into my photos, social media posts, news articles, videos, and even Google Maps, I sketched several ideas back in October. One of those sketches immediately resonated with me, and I knew it was the one I wanted to bring to life.
If you live in Southcentral Alaska—especially Anchorage or the Mat-Su Valley—you’ve likely seen the Glenn Highway Christmas Tree near the Old Glenn Highway exit by the Knik River Bridge. For decades, it’s offered a bright spot for commuters traveling to and from work.
My version of this familiar scene, featuring my take on the classic tree, is now complete:

Over the next week or so, I’ll post a more detailed view of the process of creating this painting, including some of the changes I made throughout the painting process.
Until then, Glenn Highway Christmas Tree is available as art prints and note cards right here in the website store! It’s the perfect gift for those that want to spread some holiday cheer or just send some of Alaska to family and friends in the rest of the country. Stickers will also be available next week—hopefully just in time for Thanksgiving. The original painting is also available for those wanting an original holiday painting for their home!
