An original gouache painting featuring the first snowfall of the season.
It’s hard to know exactly when the first snow is going to fall. In southcentral Alaska, October is often the month when the snow makes its first appearance, even though it’s often fleeting, only to return in force in November. The time of day and location also varies wildly from year to year. This painting attempts to capture the moment on an early Monday morning, about 5:30 AM, when the first snow of 2025 was spotted coming down in a heavy snowfall. Although the snow didn’t last long, it provided a atmospheric scene that was well suited to capture on black watercolor paper.
