Mendenhall Glacier

A few years ago, we had the opportunity to explore parts of Juneau, including the Mendenhall Glacier area. We went there in the afternoon and hiked close to one of the waterfalls by the lake that’s by the glacier. The reference photo used for this painting is just one of several captured during our adventures that day.

This painting tries to capture some of the magic of that evening. The sun is setting beyond the mountains, all reflected in the calm surface of the lake. The glacier itself is tucked away in the upper right corner while in the foreground, I’ve attempted to capture the numerous rocks and stones covering the beach.
