Pioneer Peak Farm
About the painting
Every now and then, nature offers a rare and unforgettable display. This painting attempts to capture one such moment, when an unusual cloud formation formed over Pioneer Peak. Unlike anything I had ever seen before, the strange, wavy clouds lingered for just a short time, just long enough for us to hop in the car and snap a few photos before they dispersed.
In this painting, I’ve attempted to capture the eerie beauty of the clouds and the brooding sky behind the mountain, along with that fleeting moment during late fall when the snow line creeps lower down the slopes. Here, the snow is only days away from reaching the valley floor and blanketing the fields of a local farm.
This painting was also one of my first serious gouache paintings.
