The 4th of July holiday here in the United States is our celebration of Independence Day. The flag of the USA flies everywhere. There are parades, celebrations and good food as we remember the early days of our country.
This painting was created as a tribute to Independence Day and the flag of the United States. One day, as I stood in the yard just looking up at Matanuska Peak, I saw a flag being tugged by the gentle summer breeze. I knew in that moment I had to paint it and named it “Stars, Stripes & Matanuska Peak.”
Although the flag is the center piece of this painting, Matanuska Peak was the perfect background for the painting overall, and one of the few of Matanuska Peak that I’ve painted that didn’t cover the whole mountain with snow.
